Write the job without a vendor name
Suppose visitors need to understand a product’s export options. They do not need the bot to change their account or run an export. That is a read-only explanation job. List the required source, version and citation behavior before considering either product’s broader agent features. A feature that acts on customer data introduces a different verification problem and should not enter this pilot accidentally.
Inspect the same difficult questions
Use one clear supported question, one ambiguous question, one outdated-version question and one unsupported request. Preserve the wording for both tools. Record whether the answer asks a useful clarification, identifies its source or admits a limit. A generic refusal can be safer than a false answer yet still unhelpful; judge whether it points the reader to an appropriate article or contact route.
Treat metering as part of the configuration
Check current model choices, action accounting and message or credit limits in each product. A number on a pricing card is not a common unit across vendors. Include the cost of scheduled regression tests and source refresh review, not just expected visitor questions. Keep assumptions reversible: if no traffic history exists, use a bounded pilot and avoid buying capacity for a forecast with no evidence.
A conditional recommendation, not a leaderboard
Evaluate SiteGPT for a focused source-to-website workflow; examine Chatbase when the product’s broader agent requirements genuinely belong in scope. Neither recommendation establishes accuracy. Our comparison is documentation-led and does not claim hands-on timing, deflection or conversion improvements. Keep the final decision tied to the reader task and actual observed output, with ordinary search available if a conversational interface adds little value.
- Mark every proposed action as required, optional or excluded. Do not let an optional integration become an unreviewed launch dependency.
What this comparison can—and cannot—settle
This guide draws on SiteGPT getting started, Chatbase current plans and capabilities, SiteGPT vendor-authored Chatbase comparison; not an independent benchmark. Merchant-controlled records describe the provider’s own capabilities, terms or standards; they do not independently validate those claims. These records do not establish independent confirmation of the product claims.
Verify any current price, plan limit, label direction, compatibility rule, or commercial term that would materially change the decision. The dated source ledger shows the underlying records so this conclusion can be checked and updated.
